Introduction SxS media was introduced to address the need for reliable, high-performance solid-state storage for professional HD and later UHD video workflows. Built on PCI Express and flash memory technologies, SxS cards and associated readers became common in broadcast, ENG, and cine-lite workflows due to their durability, sustained write performance, and standardized file handling. Although newer media (CFexpress, SDXC UHS-II/III, XQD) and camera-internal SSDs have emerged, SxS remains in use across many installed systems and archives.
